Cupping Therapy

Restore Movement, Relieve Tension, and Support Natural Healing

At Barn Mews Wellbeing Clinic, we offer Dry Cupping Therapy, a specialist treatment designed to help reduce muscle tension, improve mobility, increase circulation, and support the body's natural healing processes.

Based on traditional Chinese therapeutic techniques and combined with a modern understanding of soft tissue treatment, dry cupping uses specially designed cups to create gentle suction on the skin. This negative pressure lifts and separates the underlying tissues rather than compressing them, helping to release tight muscles and fascia while encouraging increased blood flow to the treatment area.

How Does Cupping Therapy Work?

The vacuum created by the cups stimulates the body's natural healing response by:

  • Increasing local blood circulation

  • Promoting lymphatic drainage

  • Reducing muscle tension and tightness

  • Improving tissue flexibility and movement

  • Helping to alter pain thresholds

  • Stimulating local healing mechanisms

  • Supporting recovery following exercise and physical activity

The increased circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to the treated area while assisting the removal of metabolic waste products, helping tissues recover more effectively.

What to Expect During Treatment

Your therapist will assess the area requiring treatment before placing specialist cups onto the skin. The cups are applied for a controlled period and may be used statically or moved gently across the tissues depending on your treatment needs.

Most patients experience a pulling or stretching sensation rather than pain.

Treatment is tailored to the individual and can be incorporated into a wider wellbeing programme where appropriate.

Are the Marks Normal?

Yes. Dry cupping commonly leaves circular marks on the skin where the cups have been placed.

These marks are:

  • Not bruises caused by trauma

  • Usually painless

  • A normal response to treatment

  • Temporary

The marks occur as blood and fluids are drawn towards the surface of the skin, supporting the body's natural lymphatic drainage processes.

Marks can vary in colour and intensity between individuals and may remain visible for up to 20 days before naturally fading.
