Celebrating

10 Years of

Barn Mews

Our Story…

I write this in a mixture of shock, pride, happiness and well endless emotions.

On the 26th August Barn Mews will be 10 years old!! I cant believe it.

I thought it would be nice to share the history of the last 10 years for those of you that have been with us since the start and for those that are new visitors.

So just over 10 years ago I started renting the little treatment room at Barn Mews. I had recently qualified as a physiotherapist, I was a sports massage therapist and I had just waved goodbye to a 10 year career in hospitality. I rented the room a couple of nights a week with the intention of gradually building a little clinic base alongside my full time job. I remember my first 2 clients that walked through the door (you both know who you are), I was so nervous but you were both so friendly and lovely and you still support me to this day :)

The lady that leased the barn at the time had to suddenly give it up. So I took the huge leap of taking over the entire lease for the barn with exactly only 4 clients on my books at that point. Am I crazy? The answer is probably yes but I have always liked a challenge.

I found beauticians and hypnotherapists and councillors to rent rooms over the years while I built my client base. Most weeks would consist of 8-4 at the hospital and then sports massage 5-9pm everyday. It was hard work but the client base kept growing and that motivated me to keep going.

Over the years I have taken on amazing therapists that have helped me build and develop the clinic and the treatments we offer. Many therapists have spent some of their career with us and moved on to open their own business or have families and will always be part of the Barn Mews Family.

The biggest challenge hit us with the rest of the country when covid hit. We had just reopened from a huge refurb and rebranding to a Well-Being Clinic. Having to close the clinic broke my heart and having to pay full rent and bills for 7 months with no income was a scary time for me and my therapists. We were worried for our clients who we knew needed treatment for pain management, physical health and most importantly their mental health. We were fighting with the government to allow us to open but as you all know we struggled to do this.

However, with everything clingfilmed, anti-bacd, gloves, masks, visors and a stringent cleaning regime, we were finally allowed to open.

For all of those clients that waited and came back to us, we are forever grateful.

Over the years we have continued to grow, our therapists are so skilled and have qualifications in a huge variation of treatments, allowing us to offer so many wonderful treatments. Our beds have got more and more comfy and our rooms have continued to get more and more relaxing. Our Christmas open evenings have got bigger and better and our Christmas Raffles are now famous for how terrible I am at continuing to give away prizes because I want everyone in the room to win :)

The biggest reason for us being able to achieve this is our clients. Over the years you have supported us through everything, recommended us to your friends and family, sent us wonderful reviews, sent us kind messages when things were hard and have just been amazing.

Like with all businesses I get my fair share of abusive messages and unfair reviews but the messages of love and support and the 5 star reviews we receive blows those out of the water.

A few years ago I went through my own personal mental health battles and it was difficult to keep juggling work and the clinic but I got through it with the love and support of my team and the wonderful clients that we have.

I cannot say thank you enough to every single client that has visited us and continues to spread the word about our little well-being clinic.

A huge thank you to the wonderful and talented therapists that I could not keep the barn going without. You provide some amazing treatments and you are all truly fantastic friends and I see you all as family. You are just amazing.

A massive thank you to my mum who helps me keep the clinic clean and tidy and generally to my family who are my biggest supporters.

I cannot believe it has been 10 years and I am proud to say that I did it, I am achieving what I wanted to do and will continue to do so as long as I can.

Below is a collection of some of the wonderful messages I have received for our 10 year celebration, each and every one is so thoughtful and means the world to me and the team.

From the bottom of my heart. Thank You

Sam & The Team @ Barn Mews
